WILMINGTON — Good Friends of Wilmington (GFW) will hold their 20th annual fundraising luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Wilmington Convention Center, 515 Nutt Street. Parking in the Wilmington Convention Center parking deck will be free for all attendees.

GFW expects the 20th luncheon to attract their largest attendance to date, exceeding 800 women. Attendees will gather and hear stories about individuals and families that have received assistance from luncheon donations in the past year. The luncheon is the organization’s only fundraiser and 100 percent of funds raised are distributed in New Hanover County.

This festive fundraiser celebrates the spirit of giving and promotes holiday cheer with a social, holiday music, simple lunch and presentation at noon. In 2015, the luncheon hosted 700 women and raised a record-breaking $82,000 to serve individuals and families in need in our community.

The Good Friends Santas will be on hand to help raise funds too. The Santas are community members, business leaders and elected officials that help by collecting donations and spare change from the guests.

Good Friends of Wilmington is a private, nonprofit, nondenominational group of women organized for the purpose of raising funds. The funds provide financial assistance to social service organizations or individuals when other resources have been exhausted. The recipients are identified through the local Department of Social Services. The annual luncheon is a modest meal, making it possible for every dollar raised to go to the families in need.
