The following funding guidelines are in place to help fulfill our mission “to assist those who are still in need when all other resources have been exhausted.”

Funding Guidelines:

  1. Funds are available to DSS and the community liaison for up to $500.00/individual. If the need is for more than $500.00 then another executive board member must also agree to the amount.
  2. Funds are available only when they are not available through another government entity or organization.
  3. Ideally this is a one-time gift.  However, if a need occurs after a two-year interval DSS or the community liaison may agree to a second gift.  Each family would be limited to two gifts from Good Friends, and they must be at least two years apart.
  4. We are looking for sustainability from a family.  When we assist a family, we are looking for them to maintain their expenses following our assistance. Examples include but are not limited to rent, car payments, and water bills.

Referral Procedure:

  1. Referral form completed and submitted by social worker and/or partner agency.
  2. Referral form is received by Good Friends of Wilmington and shared with Community Liaison
    (CL) for initial review.
  3. CL will follow-up with the referring social worker and/or partner agency with any questions, if
    needed.
  4. CL may discuss referral with other board members as needed, such as executive board members
and/or possibly members of the Good Friends of Wilmington distribution committee.
  5. If the request meets the established Giving Guidelines for Good Friends of Wilmington, then CL
will send necessary information to the active Treasurer for a check to be mailed or payment to
be made over the phone to the vendor.
